Today I want to talk scams. Unfortunately the words “home based business” have been rather tarnished over the years thanks to the myriad of scams and slick used-car sales pitches out there. However, social media is changing the ball game when it comes to dealing with manipulative markerters. The other night I clicked on a link for an ebook (which was just one long sales pitch) that promised me a sure fire way to earn big bucks with just a 7 minute work day doing forex trading. It seemed plausible and the guy in the picture didn’t look like a dodgy scammer. I was curious so I did what all sensible people do, I googled him. A rheem of discontent landed before my eyes. Establishing credibility and trustworthiness takes more than a good sales pitch. The primary thing you can do to ensure nobody ever uses the word “scam” in relation to your home based or internet business is to provide excellent customer service and deliver on what you promise. Be clear about what you are offering and if someone does complain or express a lack of confidence in your brand, use their feedback to improve your communication about what you do and let them know you have taken their experience on board to better your business. Social media marketing is more than just broadcasting your brand and your products. It is about building relationships and excellent customer service and responsiveness will help you build your brand much more effectively than any slick marketing campaign ever will. Just sayin’
