We are rebranding– Here’s the story that lead to the new name “Your Brilliant Un-Career”

Support a WAHP is rebranding. Here's why and what it means for you

Support a WAHP is rebranding. Here’s why and what it means for you.

Change is inevitable in the digital landscape because technology moves and shifts focus at lightening speed. Change is also inevitable for entrepreneurs.

When I first took on Support a WAHP, the landscape on Facebook was vastly different. Brand pages were shiny and new and we were all diving in and promoting our businesses the old-fashioned 20th Century way.

Well, that landscape changed and we’ve had to get smarter with our marketing and stop advertising like we are 1950s soap commercials. I started up Content Marketing Cardiology in response to the need for better marketing support and information.

Another thing I did when  I first took over Support a WAHP was to release my ebook: Diving In: How to startup and grow your home based business. When I went to update the book, 2 years ago now, it became apparent that the book was more like a manual than an inspiring book that could change lives. I knew I had to put more of myself into the book, and in the process, ended up writing an entirely new book, which is now called Your Brilliant Un-Career: Women, entrepreneurship, and making the leap.

Why the focus on women?

Support a WAHP was inclusive of all parents and people so you may wonder why I’ve shifted focus to women. Men are, ofcourse, welcome on the new site and I will no doubt interview men on my podcast show as well. The reason I’ve shifted focus is because I’ve seen such a need to empower women. Did you know that only 2% of all millionnaires are women? Did you know that women-owned businesses are less likely to scale than those owned by their male counterparts? Did you know that many women, especially those working from home, still believe they have to exchange money for time? There’s a pervasive poverty mindset that exists for women micro business owners that doesn’t seem to be so prevalent for men. I want to change these statistics. That is what drives me. That may seem like a lofty goal but I believe it is achievable. I wanted to give women a roadmap to starting up a sustainable business that won’t leave them feeling overwhelmed by the process. I want to inspire women to achieve their wildest dreams.

Why shift the focus from working at home?

I’ve come to see that working at home is the wrong goal post. The goal post should be “doing what you love”. The “where” of your business should be flexible to meet your lifestyle needs but it is only one aspect of owning a business. Your work should be purpose-driven, otherwise it is likely to fail… that is the reality. The failure rate amongst small businesses is just under 70% within the first five years. That is a staggering statistic. I don’t want you to give up, so I’ve shifted focus to help you find your purpose and turn it into a sustainable, thriving business.

There are now plenty of work at home sites and social channels, all catering to different business types. I have grown and so has my business, so now it’s time for me to move on and leave the legacy that I am passionate about.

Why rebrand the Facebook Page? Why not just start a new page?

I’ve thought long and hard about this, but the reality is that most of the businesses owners that engage with the Support a WAHP Facebook page are the ones I have written the book for. I’ve worked hard to grow my audience on the Support a WAHP business page and didn’t want to just throw all that out the window. The audience is still, pretty much the same, the content…much of it is the same. I will still be supporting home based business owners but also those who have their own startups who are not home based, as these stories are valuable and need to be told.

Why stick around?

The website will feature a podcast show that will highlight the stories of women who have made the leap from the 9 to 5 world to working for themselves. It will also feature expert interviews with leaders in the entrepreneurial and social media world, and business building tips that can help you get established and grow sustainably. As my capacity grows, I’ll start running competitions and promotions again, that include you, that are fun and will help you build your business. My focus is very much still on help you grow and thrive in your business. I will also be re-launching the Micro Business Bootcamp (which I’ve run successfully for two years now) as the Un-Career Accelerator. There are exciting times ahead and I’d love for you to stick around for the ride.

So, that’s it in a nutshell. If you have questions, I invite you to contact me via the Facebook Page or Twitter at @uncareer (yes, we changed that too!).

What’s happening to the Support a WAHP website?

This website will be sunsetted, meaning that the content will remain but it will no longer be updated. Some of the content has been moved to the new site, but not all. There will be a popup to redirect people to the new website once it is finished. The new website is yourbrilliantuncareer.com

When is the book coming out?

The book will be launched in November this year! I’m so excited to finally be finished. It’s being laid out for print right now!
